I don't know about you all, but the race for our state district representative for our area is in full swing. Education has become a big topic because of Governor Greg Abbott's efforts to ensure parents can seek an education for their child(ren) in whatever school they choose. A school "voucher" bill was attempted in the last legislative session here in Texas. It didn't pass, so the governor had legislators come back for four sessions. It still didn't pass. I'm all for parents being able to educate their children with tax dollars from whichever school they choose. It doesn't have to be a public school. I pay taxes just like everyone else in this state. My children attended public school because we couldn't afford to put them in a private school, or we would have in a heartbeat. I've worked in both settings and know that tax dollars could be spent more wisely than they are. Instead, they are asking for more money with fewer students in attendance. It's time to evaluate where we stand and be honest about the results we are seeing. It's time for parents to use tax dollars to send their children to the school of their choosing.
